Macintosh Setup
Mac Installation Instructions for your AdVANtech connection
If you download software through the Internet, you will need a program such as Aladdin Stuffit Expander to decode
and/or decompress the software before you can use it.
PPP Connection Software
PPP software is available as FreeWare programs such as MacPPP or FreePPP. You can download
these programs from several sources on the Internet including ftp://ftp.pcis.net/mac. PPP connection software is frequently included
with books such as Internet Starter Kit for
Macintosh or packages such as Apple Internet Connection Kit. Commercial PPP connection
software is also available at most software stores.
Installing FreePPP 1.0.5.
To install the FreePPP software drag the two files "Config PPP" and
"PPP" to the System Folder on your hard disk. These files are shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1
You should see the dialog box shown in Figure 2.
Click the OK button. After the files have been moved to the System Folder,
choose Restart from the Special menu. The PPP software is now installed and you may
proceed with Configuring MacPPP or FreePPP.

TCP/IP Software
The Macintosh System Software version 7.5 and later includes TCP/IP software called
MacTCP. If you have System 7.5 or later you should have a MacTCP control panel. If you
don't have a MacTCP control panel, you may install it from your System 7.5 disks or CD. If
you do not have System 7.5 or later, you will need to purchase it or acquire MacTCP by
purchasing a package such as the Apple Internet Connection Kit or a book such as Internet
Starter Kit for Macintosh.
If you have System 7.5.2 or later, you may have Open Transport installed. Open Transport
is a replacement for MacTCP and other networking components in the MacOS. If you have Open
Transport installed, you will have an item in Control Panels called "TCP/IP".
For best results, make certain that you have at least version 1.1 of Open Transport.
You should not have both MacTCP and TCP/IP in your Control Panels. Having both installed
will cause connection problems and system instability.
If you have MacTCP installed, you may proceed with Configuring MacTCP.
If you have Open Transport installed, you may proceed with Configuring Open Transport.
Client or Browser Software
Once the PPP connection and TCP/IP software are working properly, you can install and use
any of the Internet programs that are available for the Mac, including:
Netscape Navigator Microsoft Internet Explorer Eudora Claris Emailer Fetch Anarchie NewsWatcher
NCSA Telnet RealAudio Player
Instructions for installing and using these programs will be included with the software.
