Connecting to America Online
You can now access AOL through AdVANtech's local access
numbers.
If you op not to use AOL's dialup numbers, then their service is $10 a
month, not $20.
note: this only applies to customers currently using AdVANtech. You
simply change your billing plan to the $10 a month option. Keyword
Billing. Any questions about how to set this up, call 736-7300.
Connecting to AOL is easy. Here's how it's done:
Read through all of the instructions before you begin this process.
If you already have the AOL v3.0 and an account, then you don't have
to reconfigure AOL.
It will be easier to follow the procedure if you print the instructions.
To Download AOL
If you do not already have AOL v3.0, you can download it by clicking on
this link:: ftp://ftp.aol.com/aol_win/SETUP.EXE. After you've clicked the
link, your browser will ask you if you want to open it or save it to disk.
Click Open it. The download will take at least a half an hour. Once
complete, AOL will automatically open and the installation process will
begin. A screen will pop up. Click yes for the next screen. After you click
yes, the program will check for a previously installed version of AOL.
Simply click install at this step. If you already had AOL, this program will
update your current AOL browser and no information will be lost. Click
ok for the next screen. Now, it's safe to close anything that is open.
If using a PC:
Start America Online. At the AOL screen, click setup. After you've
clicked setup, click on edit location. Set both networks to TCP/IP. Leave
the phone numbers and speeds alone. When this is done, click save. On
the next screen back, click ok.
If using a Macintosh:
Start America Online. At the AOL sign-on screen, click setup. Now under
the first try and second try sections, select
TCPack under Connection File.
After the Configuration:
Before you go on AOL, connect to Advantech. If you're a new AOL user,
in the select screen name box, select new user. If you have a account
with AOL already, fill in your username and password like you would do
normally. After you've entered the requested information, click sign on.
Answer all of the questions and fill in the blanks, as needed. If you put
new user in to username you will be a user with AOL after answering all
of the questions.
To Start AOL after the previous step:
Before you go on AOL, connect to Advantech. At the AOL screen, go to
the select screen name box and select your username. Put your
password in the enter password box and click sign on. You will now be
connected to AOL. If you have any questions about AOL, contact AOL,
not Advantech.
